Scenery in spades. There’s no place like south west Western Australia. Roll over the hills and down into the valleys, pass through pretty country towns, majestic forests and multi-coloured orchards until you get to a fine pocket of wineries in the Blackwood Valley.
Timewise, it will take you a bit shy of three hours to drive from Perth. After that, take yourself off the clock to talk to the winemakers and sample their cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and shiraz.
We doubt you’ll make it out of the region without acquiring some artisan fare or handcrafted giftware either. Oh, and if wine consumption leaves you unable to perform designated driver duties, you’re in luck because the Bibbulmun Track – one of the world’s great long-distance walk trails – makes it well worth staying on another day.
