It may sound like a description of your childhood nemesis, but Wrattonbully is a world-heritage listed region that produces widely-acclaimed cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, merlot, tempranillo, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc.

The local economy also benefits from world-class prime lamb, beef and pasture seed production – farmed by hard-working people. The wineries are often family affairs – and a handful have recently been given government grants to upgrade their cellar doors.

To get there, head towards the Limestone Coast, 330kms south-east from Adelaide.
