As the saying goes: behind every great city is a great wine country. From Adelaide, a 20-minute drive east will take you to this cool-climate wine region – one of the largest in Australia (narrow, but 70km long).
What does this mean for you? Premium wine for days. The growing conditions for some of these grapes are really quite extraordinary. Think sheer, stony hillsides blanketed in fog, hills and valleys with a multitude of altitudes and exposure to all kinds of weather.
As a result, every cellar door you come across will have a different story and a different selection. Pinot noir, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris and chardonnay are staples, and you will find exciting sparkling and unexpected experimentations with anything and everything (e.g. grüner, fiano, sangiovese, montepulciano).
