Queensland

Queensland’s already got enough going for it, now it’s got wine, too.

While wine has been produced here for many decades (technically since the 1860s), in the past 10 years, the southeast corner of the State has developed most interestingly. Part of the big drawcard of the ‘sunshine state’ is its tropical climate, but it turns out that grapes don’t enjoy these conditions as much as backpackers. For this reason, it’s the ‘colder’ parts with higher altitudes that are most successful with varieties like cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and viognier.
