A wonderful thing happens in Tumbarumba as a result of the cool temperatures and ready access to pure mountain air and water – the wines made there have deliciously intense flavours.

Approximately 80% of plantings in the region are chardonnay and pinot noir – although, recent years have seen successful batches of merlot, pinot gris, riesling, shiraz and viognier. If you fall in love with the wine in Tumbarumba, consider yourself in good company as most of the grapes produced here are sold on to major wine companies. There is also a small, growing pocket of cellar doors ready to welcome you in and show you why the grapes are in such demand.

See for yourself by heading towards the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, in the middle between Melbourne and Sydney and around three hours from Canberra.
