You can’t steer wrong with a trip to the Perricoota wine region – especially if you head to the towns of Echuca and Moama on the northern bank of the Murray River close to the Victorian border.

Perricoota consists of a small, pocket of wineries in a setting popular for riverboat and paddle steamer experiences. The sunshine-soaked vineyards are renowned for major grape varieties such as shiraz, Verdelho, cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc, semillon, chardonnay and merlot as well as fortified selections like malbec and grenache.

Kaz says: In wine regions like this one with weather conditions that allow fruit to be ripened more evenly, the wines often don’t need to be cellared after bottling. This means you are likely to taste current wine trends at their cellar doors.
